Sinclair’s story
Gender: butch, trans masc
Sexuality: queer
Pronouns: they/them
Current home: Seattle, Washington
From: Southeast Alaska; Tlingit, Haida, & Tsimshian lands and waters
Cultural background/identity: Pacific northwestern white settlers from western Europe, with deep loves of the mountains and forests as places of worship and prayer. Forged queerness, transness, kink, leather, and polyamory identities immersed in feminist & queer activism, culture, and art of the 90’s and beyond, in Seattle, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Deeply appreciative of the many leather gender-diverse queers who came before me and consider that a huge part of my heritage and lineage.

Interests: I’m always reading, in particular all things queer, trans and all things dark romance. I’m always writing, from daily journaling to personal creative nonfiction essays, queer erotica, poetry, and other fiction. I relentlessly study energy systems in the body, identity development, social systems of power, liberational practices, and Buddhism, among other things.
As a queer trans masc butch, I find it very important to study and embody a non-toxic masculinity, which takes deliberate effort in a culture that holds up a singular heteropatriarchal masculine model. As a white person, I am determined to continue a vigilant study of anti-racist practices and philosophies, and to decenter whiteness and white supremacy culture in as much that I do as possible. I can’t separate my own identity as white from my other identities around gender, sexuality, and relationships — they all inform each other and are interwoven.

PHOTOGRAPHER’S NOTE: When I was snapping photos of Sinclair and their friend Alex, they momentarily slipped into their writing persona as they started composing a few lines out loud. After Sinclair reached out, I found myself absorbed in checking out their erotic writing (IG @mrsexsmith) that ranges from offering Spicy Writing workshops to sharing essays, poetry and dirty stories. Sinclair’s writing is not only spicy, but queerness, transness, kink, leather, and poly are integral themes to their writing.
Sinclair’s identities as a queer trans masc butch and leather dominant & daddy are integral to their accomplished writing. They orchestrate transformative kink scenes through writing, spoken word, and ritual practice. As a leather community member, teacher, titleholder, producer, and organizer, they are known and active in their community presenting and performing at venues like International Ms. Leather/Bootblack, Dark Odyssey, SXSW, Harvard, and Oz Kink Fest.
So, if you’re a queer reader who needs something a little extra queer and spicy, and/or kink and poly oriented, take a break from scrolling to check out Sinclair’s work at sugarbutch.net. If you’re an aspiring spicy writer, they host an annual erotic writing workshop. Sinclair teaches story sharing in a different way than this project and right now it matters more than ever where we spend our dollars, so if you’re looking to support queer artists, this is a great way to do it! Thank you, Sinclair, for being part of this project and being you!
Find their work in all the places online at http://sugarbutch.net/find-sinclair to include Spicy Writing workshops and their latest book Your Year in Kink.
